Montauk Point - The End

We visited Montauk Point today. Louis as always was pretty good in the car. We are blessed with easy going, laid back babies. Leah traveled well and now Louis does as well. I do believe that part of the reason our children do so well when out is because simply we take them nearly everywhere we go. They have gotten used to their surroundings and adjust well to changes because of it.

Looking at Leah in the playground

Swinging away

Playing on the shore

Louis messing with his big sister

I think this had to be by far his favorite thing all day. He loved playing with the rocks.

Playing peek-a-boo and sticking his tongue out at me

Investigating by hearing...

by touch...

by taste...

Not so sure

Looking for more

A for Apple

Drove out to Water Mill today and visited the Milk Pail. We went apple picking and spent some time in the pumpkin patches.

Our Lil Sleepyhead

Louis was sitting in his highchair while Matt was cooking dinner tonight. I guess he got tired of waiting around for his food.

Happy 9 Months!

Today Louis is 9 months old. That leaves only 3 months until his first birthday!

Every day brings us something new with Louis. I've started to refer to him as the Tornado or Taz because he wrecks havoc everywhere he goes in our house.

Milestones

• Stands while holding onto something
• Jabbers or combines syllables
• Understands object permanence
• Cruises while holding onto furniture
• Drinks from a sippy cup. He does not enjoy this much but is getting better at drinking from it.
• Eats with fingers
• Bangs objects together
• Plays patty-cake and peek-a-boo
Into 10 months
• Says "mama" and "dada" to the correct parent. He says more dadas than mamas and a lot more Eh-yas than anything else.
• Waves goodbye. I'm not sure why but Leah waved hi first and now Louis has as well.
• Picks things up with pincer grasp. Louis has excellent hand-eye coordination. He can spot a small piece of paper or leaf or string (whatever is on the floor) and pick it up without a problem.
• Crawls well with belly off the ground.
• Indicates wants with gestures. Just eat in front of him or get ready to give him his food and he starts moving his arms around and trying to gesture towards you and the food.
• Stands alone for a couple of seconds. Right now he is experimenting with letting go as he leans on someone or the couch.
• Puts objects in a container.
• Understands no. There is no doubt about it. Louis is developing a good understanding of what no means. So much so that we've made it a point to no longer play around with him with the word. We used to shake our heads no and get him to do it but we don't want him to associate the word with play. Tone makes a big difference now. He is also beginning to get an understanding of simple instructions.
• Responds to name.
• Imitates speech sounds. One of our daily activities involves singing sounds and Louis trying to imitate them.
• Begins to identify self in mirror. Just last night he spent about ten minutes looking at himself in the reflection of the window by the couch.
• Plays ball. If you roll a ball to him and show him how to roll it back he picks it up and tries to roll it back to you. He has also attempted to throw it a few times but mostly it just goes in his mouth.
• Drinks from a cup independently. I have attempted to give him a cup and show him how to drink from it. After a few tries and lots of messes he seems to have gotten the idea of it. Mostly the water just ends up all over him.

Notes:
Louis really enjoys music. Not all music but there are several songs that he gets really happy when he hears and he bangs his hands on objects as if he is banging a drum. He also dances around. He really enjoys when you sing to him and recognizes many different tunes.

End of Season

Today is tough day for me and well a tough day for all Americans I think. Even those who didn't lose anyone they knew personally in the 9-11 attacks. I try not to stay home and get too wrapped up in the news coverage. Spending time with my kids is the best way to honor those that died I think. Living life to the fullest.

We visited White Post Farms to get out of the house. It was one of the last weekends of their Summer/Fall session before their Fall Festival begins.

We took pictures with Clifford the Big Red Dog and with a rabbit.

Louis enjoyed playing in their playground and sandbox.
