Happy 13 Months!

The last month seems to have flown by. Hard to believe Louis is making towards his toddler years. He has his definite toddler moments but I think we're still more in a baby than toddler one right now. Though it is pretty obvious that the baby stage will soon be over. :(

At 13 months Louis is walking about 50% of the time. Every day he does a little less crawling and more walking. His favorite activity is climbing. He can climb over baby gates, boxes, whatever is in his way- you can rest assured he will find a way around it. He has figured out that if he stands on a box or one of his toys he can reach door handles & will proceed to open doors.

He is not a picky eater. I know some parents have picky eaters but it seems our children are anything but picky when it comes to food. I know this is likely to change in the next year or two as Louis fights for some control but for now he enjoys trying everything. Just the other day he got very angry at his dad for holding out on some beef jerky. His taste for food is diverse. He will eat spicy, savory and sweet. He loves curry food. He gobbled up some leftover curry chicken salad the other day and was very upset to find he ate it all. He likes to have his own plate and to eat on his own.

His speech continues to grow with more words added to his vocabulary every day. I did notice that over the last two weeks or so he hasn't been talking as much as he has the past couple of months but I suspect this has a lot to do with the fact he is doing more looking, touching and investigating than talking.

He follows directions really well. Recognizes the names of everyday objects without a problem. If I ask him to grab me the phone he knows what it is. Same goes for the tv remote.

His favorite thing to do lately (besides climbing) is dancing. He loves to dance to music. It does not matter if it is a song on the radio or just jingle in a commercial. He dances away. Leah has been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes and the two of them dance away together to the theme song. I love having children with a good sense of rhythm and natural love of music.

I am often asked how Louis compares to Leah at this age. I am hard pressed to compare the two of them. Louis has the benefit of a big sister to show him the ropes. I think that may have a lot to do with how quickly he picks up new things.

Snow Day

Today was a snow day for Leah, schools were closed. Matt worked from home. It was Louis's first time out to play in the snow. He enjoyed it. Especially throwing his face in it and eating as much snow as he could fit in his mouth.
