Darth Vader

The cats were of some concern but as it turns out they have adjusted well to having a baby in the house. Even so we won't leave the baby unattended with them. Can't be too careful.

Here is Darth Vader cuddling next to the baby on the couch.

Baby Smiles & Giggles

Matt can get smiles & baby giggles from the baby. I get cooing.

Serious face

Giggles

Smile of sorts

Is solace anywhere more comforting than in the arms of a sister.

Kind of looks like he is waving hello.

He looks into her eyes. He definitely recognizes Leah. She is very good at calming him down down when he is fussy. He has a great big sister.

To sleep, perchance to dream

First Bath

Today the baby decided to have a massive bowel movement that went everywhere (gotta love being a parent!) which led to his first bath. Up until now I've been giving him sponge baths.

He didn't really love the whole being bathed thing but he didn't completely abhor it either.

I am sure he is just going to love the naked pictures when he is older. ^_^ Daddy does not want these pictures posted but oh well.

The baby unknowingly swearing at us.

Happy to be dressed...can you guess who picked out the sleeper to dress him in?

Babies and Colic

Colic is defined as "If your baby cries about the same time each day and nothing you do seems to offer comfort, your baby may have colic. Colic is often defined as crying more than three hours a day, three days a week for more than three weeks in an otherwise well-fed, healthy baby."

We have entered what I hope will be a short-lived colic period with the baby. He has about a 2-3 hour crying jag in the late morning/early afternoon and then again in the early evening. Thanks to Leah I have had a lot of practice coping with crying jags. Leah was colic right around this point as well. Thanks to the chronic insomnia I've suffered from as a child the lack of sleep isn't as bad as it could be.

This too shall pass. In the meantime he will be living in my Maya Sling. It seems to be the only thing that really soothes him.

1 Month!

Happy 1 month to our big baby boy!

In the last month I am pretty sure he has passed the 10 pound mark. It is interesting to see all the differences between him and Leah as a baby. Leah arrived a few weeks early and even though she was 7 lbs, 13 oz, she was still a lot smaller than Louis. She gained about 3 pounds her first month. Even with all the eating I remember her doing, it doesn't come close to how much Louis puts away.

1 Month Milestones:

• Lifts head when lying on tummy
• Responds to sound
• Stares at faces
• Follows objects briefly with eyes
• Vocalizes: oohs and aahs - He is starting to do this and it is the cutest thing ever!
• Can see black-and-white patterns - Leah spends a lot time drawing for him.
• Holds head at 45-degree angle

My Big Sister Loves Me!

Leah loves her lil brother. She jumps at the chance to hold him and love on him.

Naps

Louis does not nap for very long during the day. At night he eats and usually goes back to sleep pretty easily. He can go into the newborn napper and get himself to sleep without a problem. During the day he is happiest being held all day. Kind of makes getting stuff done difficult. Today though he fell asleep in his napper. Yay!

I will be sad when he outgrows the napper because it is a great feature on the playpen.

First Photo Shoot

The hospital uses a photography service for first photos. We opted to have the photographer take some pictures of the baby. He is wearing Leah's choice of homecoming outfit.

We just received the photos we ordered today.
